Loungin’ 10: Springtime Special!

Volume 10 in this series that is now officially 13 years old (volume 1 was recorded in the spring of 2004!)

This edition was curated and mixed over the last two weeks mainly through digging around on Bandcamp, and specifically with spring in mind; melodic, positive, groovy…

It’s a Loungin’ mix that makes you wanna boogie!

At 32 tracks deep, I believe it’s also my first “circular” mix, i.e. that starts and ends with the same song — so you can play it on repeat without noticing!

Some of my favourite discoveries while perusing to build this tracklist definitely were Kiko Navarro‘s new album, the drum and synth duo SOCCER96 (Wow!), A Band Called Flash (Wow!), and Wayne Snow. I linked every artist to the album where that given track is taken from and I really encourage you to encourage those artists!

Enjoy!

A new mix has arrived!

1510363_10151936111937810_1326701468_nYup, this one took all of 24 hours to see the light of day from initial idea to finished recording…

I love it when that happens!

The story goes like this:

I wrote an article about Bran Van 3000 for a website I collaborate with, and in the process discovered that they had a release I was unaware of, some my buddy’s Fred Everything‘s remixes of a track off of their last album, 2010’s The Garden.

I have no clue as to how I managed to not be aware of that release since Fred is a friend and I’m the #1 Bran Van fan!

In any case, I fell in love with the main remix and, by it’s very structure, it became clear it had to be the closer of a new mix it inspired me to record.

Normally, I will make a selection of tracks I’m feeling at the moment, settle on the opener and work from there.

In this case, then, I had a closer, so I worked my way backwards until I felt I had a good opener that would build up to the closer I had chosen. Intellectually, it was a fun process and I’m utterly pleased with the result!

Et voilà!

I give you Endless Summer (I Love You Jack).

Now, some of you may or may not know it, but Jack is my son who I only get to see every other weekend, except in the summer, and this summer I got to see a lot of him, but summer is (almost) over and I will see less of him until at least the end of October, and all I could think of while recording this mix was him, hence the tagline…

Enjoy, my lovelies!

Monsieur Seb Live @ Piknic Électronik, May 30th 2010

Well, the day came, I played and the day went.

It wasn’t as sunny as one might’ve hopped, therefore not as many people showed up, but it was, all in all, a great day!

As I said in the Q&A I answered on the Piknic Électronik website, all the different styles of electronic music are part of one big continuum, but our tendency to try and categorize everything makes it confusing.

Well, this set aims to prove just that with its wide ranging spectrum of sounds (and quite a lot of acid throughout).

Hope you enjoy!

Monsieur Seb Live @ Terrasses Bonsecours, July 31st, 2008

msebterrasses

I recorded my last set in my fourth — and as it turned out, last — year as a resident at Montreal’s nicest terrasse, and I think it’s a nice farewell mix with tracks that encompass everything I’ve played there over the years.

A couple of the mixes are not top notch, but those things can happen to the best of them when playing live and talking to guests at the same time! 😉

Monsieur Seb’s House of Tech

houseoftech

So… Tech House is all the rage, huh?

There’s not a genre I haven’t spun or can’t spin, always with me very own unique touch, cuz I hate doing things just like everybody else.

So that’s what I set out to do with this mix.

But, really, I also dig this genre, or at least I did when I recorded this mix.

Since then, it has started going in circles, in my opinion, much like a snake eating its own tail.

Some FX and signature sounds (like those sweeps of white noise every few bars) have become so cliché and widespread among the established, as well as up-and-coming, producers that it seems no one is doing Tech House because they genuinely like it anymore, but rather because that’s where the money is at the moment.

Oh, well…

Hope you enjoy this mix, I think it is a very good portrait of that scene, at that time and, maybe, even since, plus it’s technically quite accomplished, if I may say so myself 😉
