What’s for dinner tonight

A Recipe from Coup de pouce’s great book (and I mean this! Not one recipe I’ve tried so far isn’t totally delicious) BBQ et cuisine d’été:

Bavette de cheval marinée au balsamique et champignons (Balsamic marinated sirloin undercut with wild mushrooms) – Click on the image to link to the recipe.

I’m going to use horse meat rather than beef because it was today’s special at my butcher’s and because I usually prefer it to beef: better tasting and healthier, too.

I will also use dried wild mushrooms instead of shitakes and regular shrooms cuz I bought some on my last trip in the countryside for local products and I’m anxious to taste’em! 😉

To accompany this: R.H. Phillips’ Syrah

Monsieur Seb’s Daily Music Suggestion: A Day at the Zoo

I’m spending the day at Granby Zoo with my daughter today, so I tought I’d type “zoo” in iTunes search tool to find today’s music suggestion.

I did consider suggesting Bowie’s Heroes, since the title of the book on which the movie Christiane F. was based is Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo, but I figured that was a bit convoluted and somewhat weird in the circumstances… 🙂

So, in the end, this is what I picked out for you today:

Monsieur Seb’s prediction of the day…

…guess what percentage of this top ten Joris Voorn will spin today at Picnik Electronik?

Joris Voorn’s Dusty Summer Festival Tunes 09

My guess?

Over a multiple hours set (he’ll play at least 4 hours), he’s most likely to play all of them, unless he does more of a live set than DJing.

Whichever, whatever, it should be a cool set, especially if he plays my track of the week, which was a remix he did recently released on Compost.

Monsieur Seb’s Daily Music Suggestion: A Hidden Gem

Garoto (Steve Cobby Solid Doc Rerub Mix) – Cusmos
Garoto

I got this track about a year ago, and since then I’ve been meaning to find a place for it in one of my mixes, but so far all I have done with it is enjoy it in the comfort of my studio or car.

So, time to share the love…

Cusmos feat. Joyce Muniz? Not a household name yet, that much is clear.

However, the Mos in Cusmos stands for Moestl, as in Karl Moestl, a name associated with Kruder & Dorfmeister and their G-Stone label.

As for Joyce Muniz (picture), her Discogs profile sounds like she’s a very promising up-and-coming DJ and MC.

As for Steve Cobby, you might better remember him as one half of the EXCELLENT duo Fila Brazillia.

Now, to me, that is the recipe for a great track!

Do check out the original and Dorfmesiter remix, they’re just as good!

Monsieur Seb’s Daily Music Suggestion: From One Chicoine to Another

I’ve recently, as many people who were in attendance, had the chance to catch Matthew Chicoine, better known under his moniker Recloose, spinning a GREAT set at Piknic Electronik.

Now, I’m not the star-struck fan-type, but I did look up the man on Facebook once I came home that afternoon, partly because I wanted to ask him directly whether he really is from Montreal, because since he’s also named Chicoine, I’m curious about the off-chance that we might have common ancestry, and to thank him for his set — especially for dropping Galaxy 2 Galaxy’s Jupiter Jazz.

So, couple of weeks later, he accpeted my contact request on FB, which in turned allowed me to learn about Matthew’s blog, Hit It and Quit It.

Blog?

No!

The place is a treasure trove of podcasts by Matthew and others, but also download links to some of his productions and other goodies, like, forexample, links to seven recordings of Jeff Mills’ radio show in the 80s!

Whoa!

Don’t miss out on this one!

Monsieur Seb’s Daily Music Giveaway

Hot on the heels of his new album, DJ T. — who you might know as the co-founder of German label Get Physical — offers us a two hours and 13 minutes mix of nice House and TecHouse floorburners via FACT Magazine, a site you can’t live without unless you just didn’t know about it.

Two hours and 13 minutes…

Hhhmmm…

Looks like I’m no longer the only one doing post-CD-length mixes! 😉

Monsieur Seb’s Daily Music Suggestion: MIMS

Some of you might already know the man, but DJ Lexis, better known to his mom as Alexis Charpentier, maintins a kick-ass website/blog with tons of great (and I mean GREAT) podcasts and edition number 025 released yesterday is one of the best, in my humble opinion.

Music is My Sanctuary should be part of your RSS Feeds and bookmarks, take my word for it!

Enjoy!

Monsieur Seb’s Daily Music Suggestion: clap ya hands!

I give in!

I’m jumping on the bandwagon and I sing their praise: The Phenomenal Handclap Band.

After seeing their name pop left and right over all my usual Web sources and friends’ FB statuses and tweets, I decided to check out their eponymous album. So I forked over 10$ to iTunes (didn’t feel like waiting for a CD, but stupid me, I didn’t think of checking on eMusic, first, if they had it, and they did) and gave it a good listen.

WHOA! Cool!

What’s more, I discovered in the meantime that the band is fronted by Quinn Luke, better known (to me at least) as Bing Ji Ling, a name I discovered through the Ubiquity’s Rewind series of covers complilations, where he had notably done a very cool cover of AC/DC’s (You Shook Me) All Night Long.

Now, I’ve read here and there that TIHCB were come kind of 70s revival band, but if you ask me, they are just doing an americanized (I mean that in a nice way) version of Cosmic Disco!

In other words: if you like the Handclap band and don’t know Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas, you need to get into them, and if you know L&PT but haven’t heard of the Handclap band yet, don’t waste any more time!

Monsieur Seb’s Track of the Week

Wigald Boning and Joris Voorn
Wigald Boning and Joris Voorn

This was announced a few weeks ago by Compost via Soundcloud and it hit the stores this week.

It will definitely be featured on my upcoming Cosmix vol. 4 mix!

I’d never heard of Boning before and he seems to be quite an eccentric and interesting character…
