Jonny Greenwood wrote on the band’s blog, “We’ve been recording for a while, and this was one of the first [songs] we finished. We’re pretty proud of it. There’s other stuff in various states of completion, but this is one we’ve been practicing, and which we’ll probably play at this summer’s concerts. Hope you like it.”

Pitchfork today offers a stream of a new Flaming Lips track from their upcoming album, as well as the actual cover art (which you see here —>).

You might not know I have a huge sweet spot for Wayne Coyne et al.‘s body of work, but that’s besides the point.

What matters here is that judging by the sound of this one, Embryonic (as it will be titled) won’t disappoint.

Not I, that is for sure!

They have yet to do so, in fact, and that’s no small feat, considering how long they’ve been at it.

I truly believe the Lips are one, if not THE most interesting bands in rock of the past 25 years.

And please, restrain yourself from replying “What about Radiohead?”

It’s pointless.

A moot argument, if ever there was one.
