Here’s an archive of all the tracks I’ve produced, co-produced or remixed so far, since 2000.
I’ve included a few details on each track, and I’m presenting them in alphabetical order because, for most of them, I’ve lost the actual date of creation in a hard drive crash. Indeed, a lot of those tracks only exist in an audio format because the Reason master file (.rns) was lost. In alphabetical order also beacuse I don’t want to put any of them forward, even though I should, but like I said, it’s an archive, not a sales pitch.
To wit, the fact that for the vast majority of them, the title is a working title, and and real title is important to me once a track is finished. I’ll let you guess which ones I think are completed tracks.
They are only available to stream, but I’ll gladly send you a copy should you request one.

Well, this one I know when it was composed! January 28th 2002. It’s a track I composed for a DJ gig that never happened, in the end. I don’t consider this to be a finished track and it shall remain that way.

Maybe some of you remember that in the early 90s, there was a wave of electronic music called ambient dub in the wake of The Orb’s emergence as a force to be reckoned with. Well, I wasn’t trying to sound like that, here, but that’s how it ended up anyways. Kinda.

This one is a Seb & Greg track, the name my partner Gregor Theelen and I use when making music together. I grabbed the sample from a Paper Recordings release (Cine City), but it obviously dates from the 50’s or the 60’s, maybe a movie or a tV show, I don’t know and would like to. In any case, this track took me just one (or a whole, depending on the point of view) day to compose and record and I remember getting at the completion point totally exhausted, but very satisfied.

When Bran Van 3000 released their second album, Discosis, there was a remix contest for their first single, Astounded. This was my entry. I made it into a kind of dub, cut the speed in half as a kind of requiem, in large part to pay respect to the memory of Curtis Mayfield, who passed not long before the record came out. Note that it’s DJSC’s Dub Mix: I had not yet switched monikers to Monsieur Seb.

Probably one of my very first attempts at making music with Reason, which means it probably dates to late 2000, early 2001. I quite dug Fatboy Slim back then (still do, but he hasn’t released anything in quite a whille, innit?) and wanted to try making big beat, too. Not so successfully, I reckon.

A Seb & Greg production, this dates back to May 2009 and it is probably one of our most accomplished track. After almost six months of living, listening and playing with it, I am not yet fed up of it, which is usually a good sign! 🙂

Here’s a track I did with my friend Jean-Marie Lapointe. Well, the original idea was mine, but what you hear as a final result is a lot more of a Jean-Marie Lapointe track with some tweaks by yours truly.

This one is based around samplings from Les Swingle Singers version of Bach’s Prelude & Fugue In C Minor, which I was introduced to by Fila Brazillia’s installment of the Anotherlatenight compilations series. One of my fine tracks, if I dare say so myself.

This is a track pretty much entirely based on samples: there are samplings from Mario Pelchat(!), Vangelis, DJ Krush and other sources I’ve forgotten. This melange of genres makes for a very eclectic and rather unclassifiable track, but enjoyably so, methinks.

I don’t like TV very much, so I often chill out by screwing around on Reason with no real intention of composing, yet, sometimes, a good idea emerges from that process. This is one of those, although it most probably doesn’t have any “commercial” potential.

This is the remix I produced for the remix project of Nicolas Maranda’s music for the Minuit, le soir television series. My track was selected by Claude Rajotte to play on his Sunday night show on Radio-Canada.

Another one of those after-dinner experiments that evolved into a track. Although it dates way back, I remember completing this one in a single evening. That weird voice sampling in the middle of the track is from David Byrne’s Catherine Wheel. It wouldn’t mind an edit, this one, but what’s the point? 🙂

Another one of those experiments that turned out to become a track, this was recorded on Sept. 13th 2009 in about 5 or 6 hours.

One of my favourite productions, it’s a track I composed as a reaction to being fired from a job. It’s a hybrid of slow breaks and acid house, and it contains samplings from Blade Runner, my favourite movie. This is one of the rare instances when a track came out exactly as I intended it. I especially like the radical change in feeling around just passed the track’s mid-point.

A collaboration between myself and Sam Melia, a guy from Switzerland (if I remember correctly) that I met on Reason Station, a community website for Reason users. Nice little House ditty that’s aged quite well, if you ask me.

Another one of those after-dinner jams, except this time it didn’t turn out to become a good track. Not that it’s bad, but it’s more like a collage of ideas than an actual track.

A Seb & Greg track. I don’t know exactly what we were on, but this is a funny cover/remix/reinterpretation/deconstruction of Bowie’s track of the same name, just for fun!

Now here’s a mystery: I know it’s a track from another Reason Station user that I remixed, but I don’t remember who that user was and I’ve searched for the track and file name on RS, but to no avail. In any case, I like this remix: it contains samplings from Orbital, Pink Floyd and Blade Runner, again.

This is a funny track, with samplings from Blade Runner, yet again, as well as Happy Mondays. I don’t know what I set out to do with this one, but it turned out to be a quite cool little number with a slightly 80s-ish feel and, apparently, it’s also the moment where I discovered the “transpose” function in Reason. Whatever it is, I like it!

As I’ve explained before, this is obviously a work inprogress because of its title. Another one of those lost gems that will probably never become complete due to the loss of the original .rns and most of the sounds used. Great potential, tough.

I’m pretty sure this is the very first track I recorded using Reason, and it’s done only with the presets that come with the software. Nonetheless, I sell some of my tracks on a royalty-free music site called Premium Beat, and this one is my best seller. Go figure!

Misha is my daughter who was born in 1999, the love of my life. I wanted to compose something for her and one morning I recorded her laugh; she was less than 2 years old, then. I incorporated that sampling in a track I had been working on at the moment. It’s no masterpiece, but still, it means a lot to me.

One of the first tracks I recorded when version 3 of Reason came out with it’s vocoder and vastly improved functions of all kinds. I thought it’d be fun to vocode that old monologue that gave it’s byline to this site of mine. Turned out into a vaguely progressive house piece that I still consider a work in progress but sadly I lost the RNS to it, too.

This is what happens when you stumble upon a sampling or loop that inspires you. In this case it was the acoustic guitar riff that comes in about halfway through. I tried building something around it, and this is what came out. I’m not entirely satisfied, but I’ve tried many times to start over and go into another direction, but this is the best I came up with.

An old track that I didn’t even remember about that I just recently found by going back to my Reason Station profile (I hadn’t visited that sited since 2005)! Thanks Martijn (who runs RS) for keeping those files for so many years! Quite enjoyable and I almost feel like I was ahead of my time with this one (it was uploaded to RS in May 2002).

One of my favourite Seb & Greg productions, period. Strange, unsettling, weird mix of electronic and acoustic vibes, a fine moment indeed. What I rememeber of the discussions Greg and I had while producing this one is that I wanted the live drums to feel like they did in the Kate Bush track King of the Mountain… 🙂

Another remix of mine for a track by a Reason Station user that went by the moniker Dan Godro, from Quebec City. I checked on RS, and the original (La paix du cobaye 888) of this track is still there. I really dig this one.

Greg doesn’t have the same musical background as I, and so, sometimes, when I send him an idea for a track, he hears something totally different from what I had in mind. This is a good example. The original idea was more along the line of Fatboy Slim-like Big Beat, but it turned into a weird Pop-Funk-Fusion hybrid. Have fun!

Love this one, reminds me of old DJ Shadow stuff, in a way, although it’s a lot less trip hoppy. The entire track is made only of three loops, a kick drum and that weird perc sound. Less is more!

Greg and I work in whichever way works best for the project we are working on. Also, Greg is formally trained in music, while I’m not. In this case, as best as I can remember, I acted more like a musical director and remixer than an actual co-composer: “more of this, less of that, play it more funky than jazzy, I’ll change that drum sound and replace it with this one, etc.” Nice result!

A track that followed pretty much the same birthing process as the previous: I more or less commissioned this one to Greg for my lady, Geneviève, as a welcome back gift for her return from a five-weeks trip to China. Jina Kaodan is the Chinese pronunciation of her full name.

Another one of my favourites. This would officially be considered a Seb & Greg remix for a Reason Station user named Petal (real name Thomas Jeppesen, from Denmark, and that link will lead you to three of his tracks, downloadble), but in actual fact, I remixed this one one my own; Greg supplied the keyboard solo in the second half of the track, and even that was heavily edited. No matter what, I think this is my finest Drum n’ Bass production.

Yes, the name is a reference to Plastikman. The link? Very tenuous, at best! Listen to it as an exercise in minimalism: I did that track with only one Redrum (the drum machine emulator in Reason) loaded with 808 sounds and one other sample that I all tweaked endlessly with dozens of Matrixes (a simple sequencer in Reason).

Yet another Reason Station user remix, this time for a kid named Jarry N. from Czechoslovakia. The remix is quite different from the original and I must say I really like the almost 303-like synth work, especially in the last part where it’s just drum and synth.

My very humble reinterpretation of The Shamen’s very influential (to me) track Re-Evolution (youtube, lyrics, original). Damn! Those pads, name dropping Wittgenstein, the way the beat comes in… That track was nothing short of an epiphany back then (the original, that is!) and it is still ageless, in my humble opinion, a true classic.

My version of a track based on a sample pack released by Pheek’s Archipel label a few years back. Greg play the piano. Greg’s version was totally dry, no effects whatsoever, while mine is heavily FX’d with intense stereo imaging and reverbs and delays and whatnot. Nice one, reminds me, or rather I was inspired by the work of Harold Budd.

Believe it or not, this one was entirely done with loops and samplings from 160dB: The Drum&Bass Interface ReFill, volume one of the ReFill mentionned above. Now, bear in mind they are Drum n’ Bass loops and samples, all recorded and intended for playback at between 160 and 175 bpm, but for some reason, I decided to experiment with them at House music bpms, and I think the result is quite interesting.

This is actually how Greg and I met: we were both Reason Station users and I liked the original version of this track, so I asked to have a go at remixing it. When I returned my finished remix, Greg was blown away. Now… Greg is a pro musician with tons of productions: albums, music for film, TV, theater, etc., but when he heard what I did with his work, he told me that it was the first time he liked what someone did with his music, and so, a friendship, musical and otherwise, was born.

When Greg and I met, the first few collaborations we did were remixes of some of his track. This one is the first co-composition of ours. Really nice one, inspired by the Jungian concept it is titled after.

If you’ve read through here from the top of the page, you’ll remember that for my track Fed Up, I wrote “This is one of the rare instances when a track came out exactly as I intended it.” Well, this one is the perfect example of the opposite. I set out with the intention of doing a minimal techno track, and it ended up like this. The voice in the break is a sampling from a Moondog record, but I don’t know if it’s his actual voice or someone else’s.

I’d totally forgotten about this track and stumbled upon it while going through my iTunes libraray for a DJing gig. Dates back to January 2009, and the s2 in the title comes from the way Greg and I operate (he lives in Holland, I’m in Canada, we’ve never met in person and sopke on the phone only once). So, in any case, the s2 means one of us had an idea, sent the file to the other, who returned it with his initial and the iteration number of the changes made, and so on. So in all likeliness, I had the initial idea, sent it to Greg, he sent it back to me and this is the result of my second round of modifications… At 5 minutes long and a rough but sufficient structure, it almost feels completed, altough I’d be hard pressed to say it is.
